Maintenance Technician - Athletic Fields
(Full Time, Non-Exempt)

Hiring Range is $42,065 to $47,708 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.
Position Summary:
Under the close supervision of the Athletic Fields Supervisor and/or Lead Maintenance Specialist, this position is responsible for accomplishing the various skilled labor tasks that are associated with the accepted maintenance practices for athletic fields and play courts. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.
Essential Duties:
- Ensures the safety of users of District athletic fields and play courts and keeps District liability risk at a minimum by properly maintaining play areas to established standards.
- Maintains all athletic fields including mowing, burning, spraying, dragging, lining, painting, replacing backstop boards, pouring cement base posts and chalking athletic fields.
- Replaces tennis nets, straps, windscreens, repairs nets, fills cracks, and repairs and paints courts as needed.
- Conducts athletic field inspections and documentation involving decisions on the removal, renovation, repair or new design of all athletic fields and play courts.
- Maintains and inspects all District fencing, including split rail and chain link.
- May assist with supervising assigned part-time/seasonal employees including orientation, training in equipment use, reviewing work, and overseeing quality. In addition, this position is occasionally responsible for supervising volunteers and community service workers.
- Assists in the application of pesticides and herbicides and weed removal as required in designated areas..
- Exercises good judgment and proper safety precautions and practices at all times.
- Keeps accurate timecard records, daily activity reports, and other reports and records as required.
- Assists with District related special events by making deliveries of materials and supplies necessary to meet the requests of facility rentals and work orders.
- Sets up and disassembles event tents, tables, picnic benches and chairs.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with District employees, vendors, various outside users’ groups and associations.
- May be required to fill in for absent employees, covering some or all duties to ensure operations continue smoothly.
- Responds tactfully, respectfully and in a timely manner to inquiries and problems in person, through email, phone, and mail by providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.
- Participates in the cleaning and maintenance of the facility as needed.
- Attends and participates in trainings, orientations, and staff meetings on project progress, safety, park maintenance practices, procedural changes and other topics related to the operations of the District.
- Attends work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis.
- May be required to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and be on snow watch as well as work shifts deviating from this position’s normal workdays and/or with other work groups.
- Complies with District and Departmental vision, mission, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Maintains, operates, and cares for assigned tools and equipment. Performs preventive maintenance or minor repairs on equipment and notifies appropriate personnel of needed tool, equipment or vehicle maintenance service or repairs.
- Performs snow and ice removal using plow trucks, blowers, spreaders, shovels, ice scrapers, de-icing salts or sand, etc.

Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age with a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Six (6) months of skilled labor experience that is related to park, field, or related grounds maintenance. One (1) year of experience is preferred.
- Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
