Description
The Optometrist provides and assesses patient needs, then plans and delivers direct eye care and associated services, including education, to patients.
Requirements
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
Performs tests and examines patient's eyes and vision, evaluating each component
Analyzes and listens to the patient's description of symptoms, diagnoses the patient's eye disorder, disease or injury
Examines patient for symptoms indicative of organic or congenital ocular disorders, and determines nature and extent of disorder or injury
Performs various tests to determine vision loss
Prescribes and administers medications, and performs procedures, if indicated.
Directs remedial activities to aid in regaining vision, or to utilize sight remaining, by writing prescriptions for corrective glasses, and instructing patient in eye exercises
Informs the patient of diagnosis and treatment needs and options in such a way that the patient understands and can make an informed decision
Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of the patient’s ocular and vision diagnosis and treatment according to QI Standards and standards of care
Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required
What you’ll need to be successful:
Doctorate Degree in Optometry (OD); three (3) years clinic experience
Current license to practice optometry in WI
Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage
Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision making, analyze medical records and prescribed protocol to formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans
Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel, and establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels
Must successfully pass all applicable background checks and drug screens
FCP complies with all CDC vaccine and testing recommendations for healthcare professionals. Proof of immunizations is required and immunizations/testing provided upon hire.
Preferred qualifications:
FQHC or Native American clinic experience preferred
