Position Summary
The DE – MSLT & PCMT Level II / VT / PT / ANSI Technician performs advanced nondestructive testing (NDT) inspections and precision calibrations to ensure equipment, instrumentation, and materials meet rigorous safety, quality, and compliance standards. This role combines multiple NDT disciplines, supporting critical industries including nuclear, defense, manufacturing, and aerospace.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT):
- Mass Spectrometer Leak Testing (MSLT) Level II: Perform helium mass spectrometer leak detection utilizing both qualitative and quantitative techniques within the MSLT method (Detector probe, Tracer Probe, Hood Testing, Evacuated envelope, and Helium filled object) to verify leak tightness and leakage rates, ensuring results meet procedures, specifications, codes and standards.
- Pressure Change Management Testing (PCMT) Level II: Perform pressure change testing examinations/inspections (Pressure Decay and Rate of Rise) leakage in accordance with procedures, specifications, codes and standards.
- Visual Testing (VT) Level II: Conduct detailed visual examinations of materials and welds to identify surface discontinuities, wear, and various defects using specialized tools (e.g., weld and profile gauges, borescopes, and other measuring devices).
- ANSI Visual Inspections of ancillary, safety related equipment and processes in the Dry Fuel Storage of spent nuclear fuel/refueling applications. Typical inspections include visual inspections of equipment, and parts of equipment (nuts, bolts, washers, gussets, etc.), receipt inspections, witnessing hydrotesting results, and coating examinations.
- Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) Level II: Successfully process liquid penetrant examinations and interpret penetrant testing results to identify surface-breaking discontinuities in non-porous welds and materials, ensuring results meet procedures, specifications, codes and standards.
Team and Safety Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction and guidance to trainees and Level I technicians.
- Strictly follow LTS and client safety procedures, ensuring PPE use at all times.
- Immediately report unsafe practices or conditions to supervisors.
Requirements
Skills and Qualifications
Education and Certifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical training in NDT preferred.
- Current (documented) Level II certifications in VT and PT required.
Experience:
- Prior experience as a Level I NDT technician or military technical experience preferred.
- Demonstrated and documented field and lab experience in VT and PT.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in setup, calibration, and operation of various NDT equipment.
- Skilled in interpreting technical documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong working knowledge of ASNT, ASTM, ASME, and AGS codes an asset.
Soft Skills:
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal) for client interactions and reporting.
- Ability to mentor and support less experienced technicians.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. or more.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Ability to work extended shifts in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to noise, heat, cold, and fumes.
- Willingness to travel and deploy for extended assignments 50-75% of the time.
