Job Summary:
The material handler loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site by performing the following duties.
Essential Functions:
- Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
- Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
- Opens containers.
- Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
- Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
- Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
- Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination.
- Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
- Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
- Loads truck for Industrial Truck Operator.
- Stack or assemble materials into bundles and bands bundles together.
- Clamps sections of portable conveyor together or places conveyor sections on blocks or boxes to facilitate movement of materials or products.
- Removes samples of materials, labels with identifying information, and takes samples to laboratory for analysis.
- Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators.
- Make simple adjustments or repairs such as realigning belts or replacing rollers.
- Assembles crates to contain products such as machines or vehicles.
- Shovels loose materials such as sand, gravel, metals, plastics, or chemicals, into machine hoppers or into vehicles and containers such as wheelbarrows, scrap truck, or barrels.
- Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
Minimum Qualifications:
Specific knowledge that can be determined objectively;
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work on schedule.
- Ability to understand and follow written, verbal, or diagram-based instructions.
- Familiarity with standard tools, equipment, and materials used in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality with consistent adherence to assigned work schedules.
- Willingness to cooperate and maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude with coworkers and supervisors.
- Ability to accept and apply constructive feedback to improve performance.
- Initiative to take on new tasks and expand skills without requiring direct supervision.
- Commitment to following company quality and environmental policies, including AS9100 and ISO 14001 standards.
- Adherence to all safety procedures, security protocols, and use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to obtain a PIV license
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and one (1) to three (3) months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Background Prerequisites:
Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks, physical, and controlled substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in manufacturing, production, or assembly environment.
- Basic understanding of quality or inspection processes.
- Mechanical aptitude or comfort working with tools and machinery.
- Interest in continuous learning and skill development within the organization.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
With or without reasonable accommodation requires the physical and mental capacity to perform effectively all essential functions. In addition to other demands, the demands of the job include:
- Required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and use hands to handle or feel materials or equipment.
- Frequently lifting or movement of up to 50 pounds.
- Work performed in a manufacturing or production environment that may involve exposure to noise, moving equipment, or other environmental factors.
- Repetitive tasks and manual dexterity may be required.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety standards.
