Description
2-year ABVP Residency position (Avian, Exotic Companion Mammal, or Reptile/Amphibian) open starting summer 2026 at AAHA-accredited Veterinary Center for Birds & Exotics (www.avianexoticsvet.com) in Bedford Hills, NY (Westchester County), under mentorship of Laurie Hess, DVM, Dipl ABVP (Avian Practice) and 3 other ABVP residency-trained exotic animal vets. Comprehensive medical and surgical care for birds, reptiles, amphibians, ferrets, rabbits, rodents, and other pet exotic species using state-of-the-art equipment including digital radiography, CT, ultrasonography, in-house laboratory, laparoscopy, laser, shockwave therapy, and acupuncture/herbal medicine. Avian/exotic animal caseload approximately 5,000 cases/year. Opportunity to consult regularly with other board-certified specialists in internal medicine, radiology, ophthalmology, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, and surgery.
Ideal candidate will have completed a 1-year general small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship or exotics/zoo-specialty internship (or have at least a year of practice experience with exotics), be enthusiastic and energetic, have good communication skills, and be licensed or license-eligible in New York.
